Dining in JLT is a rare occasion, because well… I stay on the other side of town. So, i wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to dine in JLT when I was there this weekend. A craving for Asian food & quick Nearby restaurant check on Zomato landed me in Innlay Asia. This place specializes in South east Asian flavors… Thai, Malay, Chinese et al.
Ambiance: The setting is picturesque. Cool breeze & a view of the Lake of JLT. They do have indoor seating but it would have been blasphemy to ditch this view for the indoor comfort.
Service: Very accommodating service. They replaced the rice in my duck dish to more of the duck portions. When commented that the dish was salty, it was replaced no questions asked. They also checked the spice levels with me for the dishes before placing the order. Overall Thumbs up for the service.
I ordered the Chicken Nasi Goreng, Basil Duck & Green Apple Cooler.
Green Apple Cooler was cool, refreshing with right amount of sour & sweet flavors. Green apple & mint flavor shone through the drink.
Nasi Goreng: Great chicken satay, creamy peanut sauce to dip it in, oozing fried egg & crackling prawn crackers. The rice was also well balanced without being too soy salty but they could have added in some heat requisite for a good Nasi Goreng. The sambal wasn’t available as well, which can kick up a Nasi Goreng.
Basil Duck: This dish I returned for being too salty, even on return this dish didn’t sparkle with any flavors. Sadly, there was no basil flavor in the dish or any other flavor whatsoever. Duck was cooked well but the beans in the dish were a non fit. More so, there was a chilly next to this dish on the menu & there was no way this dish can be termed spicy.
Pricing: 70 Dhs for a meal. Moderately priced.
Final Verdict: This is an okayish South East Asian place in JLT with a great view that needs to be more bold with their flavors.
